So an old friend of mine and myself started off, no wait actually, we “ended” this year with something exciting. The most interesting part of this story (which is also funny) is that I have had no experience or interest in this sport – ever.
Its not just that I’m not big cycling fan, but I do respect the sport as one of the oldest endurance games. So it was a bit odd and exciting when an old friend, who is a cycling enthusiast, called on me to see if we can set to launch a race in Dubai.
And not any kind of cycling race – a Mountain Bike race. A CITY mountain bike race 😄.
So the journey started more than a year ago when my partner was visiting one of these World Cup races in Europe. He was enthralled by the thrill of having a race among the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
After a 4 tumultuous months of working with our partners, we have succeed to gain the support of the city of Dubai and its well-placed sports council – the Dubai Sports Council.
The race on December was a “Pre-Event”, which basically is a testing ground for the officiating authorities and the technical team to assess the race tracks and also officially approve of the main race – which will be held in March 2020 (the exact date is yet to be confirmed).
How did it go? – I think we exceeded expectations :). and now we’re really looking forward to the main race in March – which will also be the season opener for the 2020 MTB Eliminator World Cup.
