This really buzzes with me, and given that it’s slowly been gaining popularity, is simply exciting – to me!!!
Pre-seed investing emerged a couple of years ago as a result of the growing size of seed and Series A deals. We’ve been doing it in Dubai for the past couple of years, pre-seed funding startups from all over the world. The check is typically under $1 million.
But what makes it appealing for investors to get involved in such small deals, apart from the obvious, small check they need to disburse?
As a former pre-seed funder, I would say its the hands-on nature of getting involved with your entrepreneurs at such an early stage that counts, followed by the propensity for you to value your investments as they progress – and whether they qualify for seed funding or follow-on funding.
Here’s are some updates on Pre-Seeds from TechCrunch, on new funds that propping at colleges and universities, that look for young talent at such an early stage of their careers (or no careers?)
